The Red Green Wiki

During the closing credits, a meeting between Possum Lodge members takes place. It is the third longest-running segment on The Red Green Show in terms of appearances, behind Handyman Corner and Adventures With Bill. Most meetings take place in the lodge basement and always begin with the sounds of the possum squeal as the members arrive. After the members arrive, they all stand up and cross their arms over their chests, and recite the lodge's motto: "Quando omni flunkus moritati", which is Latin for "When all else fails, play dead". Beginning in Season 9 (1999-2000), Red Green and the lodge members lower their heads for the Man's Prayer: "I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to, I guess." The Man's Prayer first appeared in the Men Anonymous segment in Season 6 (1996-1997), and after the segment was dropped in Season 8 (1998-1999), the Man's Prayer was incorporated into the meeting itself. In Season 15 (2005-2006), the final season episode The Big Retreat shows women taking over the Lodge Meeting with a variation on the Man's Prayer: "I am woman, hear me roar, I'm in charge, get over it". In the Season 13 (2003-2004) episode The Drive-Thru, a sped-up version of the Man's Prayer is used. This segment debuted in Season 2 (1992-1993). In the series finale "Do As I Do" in Season 15 (2005-2006), a revised version of the Man's Prayer said: "I'm a man, but I changed, because I had to. Oh well." Steve Smith later admitted that this was a tribute to his wife, who had reacted to the very first episode when it originally aired, with just a simple "Oh well."

Possum Lodge meetings by season[]

Season 2 - In Season 2 we get to finally get a full glimpse of what lodge meetings are all about as Red takes us down for the first section of the meeting. Typically after Red leaves the foyer for the meeting after the "call of the possum" is played (as a 5 min warning to announce the meeting is starting) the screen changes to the camera already downstairs facing the stairs and front row where the senior lodge members sit. Bill is the first in this row and closest to the stairs and operating (cranks) the machine which does the call of the possum. After that, usually Harold sits, then Red in the middle, followed by seating for whatever characters were on that particular show. Red calls the meeting to order, does the Possum Lodge oath, tells everyone to sit down and opens the floor for lodge business. In Season 2 this often means the conflict building throughout the show comes to a head and then is resolved in typical Possum Lodge fashion. From there Red closes the business portion of the meeting and moves to the "evening entertainment" which one of the lodge members is called on to do. At this point, Red sneaks back upstairs to do his closing monologue as per usual in the foyer before returning to the meeting with the camera to take in the entertainment as the credits roll.[]
