STEVE SMITH: Once in a while, I get a reaction to a program, or even a segment, that I don't expect. Uh, "Life Cycle" is certainly one of those. In this storyline, as you'll see, it was... Red really doesn't appreciate all the great things about bicycles, and Harold is a proponent of bicycles, and we had a bit of a wager going on and that kind of thing. That's what it was based on. I mean, I thought we were just having fun, but I did get a very irate response from a fan who thought I was slagging bicycles. And he said– he told me he would never watch The Red Green Show again. Mind you, I'm sure getting home from work on his bike is hard for him to get there in time anyway, so... {shrugs}

Plot: Red gripes that bicyclists and biking are a nuisance, but Harold thinks that they are good for the environment. This prompts Red to challenge Harold to a race, Red in his van and Harold on a bike, to see who can go the furthest with ten dollars. Harold surprisingly beats Red, who then proposes a friendly wager on the outcome of the race: if Red wins, he will receive a trophy; if Harold wins, they will exchange vehicles for one day. Surprisingly, Harold wins the contest. Red grudgingly agrees to Harold's end of the bargain and they exchange vehicles. Harold is enjoying driving the Possum Van. Eventually, Red returns the lodge driving a motorcycle, which is not even Harold's bike.
